What's so special about freeze drying?
We freeze dry our Power Greens to provide the highest quality nutrition, close to that of live greens, but in a shelf-stable product! Freeze dried foods have been shown to retain 97% of their pre-frozen nutritional value. Also, the process slows down (but does not kill) beneficial enzymes contained in the pre-frozen product.
So why don't you freeze dry your bullion and spices?
Because these are products that are meant to be used when cooking, and some nutrients (mainly Vitamins A, C, and B-complex) that are preserved during the freeze-drying process would be lost during the cooking process anyway. Our slow/low heat dehydration process still retains 95% of the nutrients from the original greens. Many similar products re-introduce the lost nutrients through artificial methods and chemicals, which we choose not to do.
Why is the serving size on your Nutrient Powders so small?
Our powders are created from microgreens, which are 4 to 40 times more nutritious than full grown vegetables. Also, freeze-dried greens are the equivalent of 10 times as much pre-dried greens.
Many nutrient powders use fillers such as alfalfa, soy, and wheatgrass. They also use full-grown fruits and vegetables, which are not as nutrient-dense as microgreens.
Where are you getting this "4 to 40 times" more nutritious number, and why is the range so big?
The numbers come from this study. The reason the numbers are so varied is because the range is different for each microgreen, and for each nutrient.
How should I use my microgreens and/or powders?
We have an ever-expanding recipes page! The most common usages are in salads, wraps, sandwiches, and soups. Other options include smoothies, eggs, stir frys, and avocado toast. If using greens in a hot dish, we recommend adding them in the last 30-90 seconds in order to maintain the highest amount of flavor and nutrition.
The most common use for the powders is added to a smoothie, juice, or even water. Our alertness blend (featuring lion's mane mushroom) is especially good in coffee or tea (used in place of creamer or milk.)
Our bullions make great seasonings for just about anything: ramen soup, popcorn, homemade crackers, etc.
